V. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
R. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Hear, O Lord, the sound of my call, alleluia; to You my heart speaks; Your glance I seek; Your presence, O Lord, I seek. Hide not Your face from me, alleluia, alleluia.

Collect
Almighty and eternal God, give us a will ever dedicated to You, and a true heart to serve Your majesty.
Through Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end.

Lesson
Lesson from the first letter of St Peter the Apostle
1 Pet 4:7-11.
Beloved: Be prudent and watchful in prayers. But above all things have a constant mutual charity among yourselves: for charity covers a multitude of sins. Be hospitable to one another without murmuring. According to the gift that each has received, minister it to one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If anyone speaks, let it be as with words of God. If anyone ministers, let it be as from the strength that God furnishes; that in all things God may be honored through Jesus Christ our Lord.

11
Alleluia
Alleluia, alleluia.
Ps. 46:9.
V. The Lord reigns over all the nations, God sits upon His holy throne. Alleluia.
John 14:18
V. I will not leave you orphans; I go away and I come to you, and your heart shall rejoice. Alleluia.

GOSPEL
Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to John
R. Glory be to Thee, O Lord.
John 15:26-27; 16:1-4.
At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: When the Advocate has come, Whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth Who proceeds from the Father, He will bear witness concerning Me. And you also will bear witness, because from the beginning you are with Me. These things I have spoken to you that you may not be scandalized. They will expel you from the synagogues. Yes, the hour is coming for everyone who kills you to think he is offering worship to God. And these things they will do because they have not known the Father nor Me. But these things I have spoken to you, that when the time for them has come you may remember that I told you.

Secret
May this pure sacrifice cleanse us, O Lord, and impart to our minds the strength of heavenly grace.
Through Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end.

Post Communion
We who have been filled with heavenly gifts beseech You, O Lord, grant us to continue giving thanks to You.
Through Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end.

DOUBLE, FIRST CLASS / WHITE
INTROIT Acts 1:11

Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up to heaven? Alleluia! He shall come in the same way as you have seen him going up to heaven, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
Ps. 46:2. O, clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with the voice of exultation.
V. Glory be . . .

COLLECT
O Almighty God, we firmly believe that Your only-begotten Son, our Redeemer, ascended this day into heaven. May our minds dwell always on this heavenly home. Through Our Lord . . .

LESSON Acts 1:1-11
In the former treatise I made, O Theophilus, of all things which Jesus began to do and to teach, Until the day on which, giving commandments by the Holy Ghost to the apostles whom he had chosen, he was taken up. To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion, by many proofs, for forty days appearing to them, and speaking of the kingdom of God. And eating together with them, he commanded them, that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but should wait for the promise of the Father, "which you have heard"(saith he) "by my mouth. For John indeed baptized with water: but you shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost, not many days hence."
They therefore who were come together, asked him, saying: "Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom of Israel?" But he said to them: "It is not for you to know the time or moments, which the Father hath put in his own power: But you shall receive the power of the Holy Ghost coming upon you, and you shall be witnesses unto me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and even to the uttermost part of the earth."
And when he had said these things, while they looked on, he was raised up: and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they were beholding him going up to heaven, behold two men stood by them in white garments. Who also said: "Ye men of Galilee, why stand you looking up to heaven? This Jesus who is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come as you have seen him going into heaven."

Alleluia, alleluia! V. Ps. 46:6
God ascends His throne amid shouts of joy, the Lord is taken up with the sound of trumpets. Alleluia!
V. Ps. 67:18-19. The Lord is in Sinai, in the holy place; ascending on high, He has led captivity captive. Alleluia!

GOSPEL Mark 16:14-20
At that time, Jesus appeared to the eleven as they were at table: and he upbraided them with their incredulity and hardness of heart, because they did not believe them who had seen him after he was risen again. And he said to them: "Go ye into the whole world and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved: but he that believeth not shall he condemned. And these signs shall follow them that believe: In my name they shall cast out devils. They shall speak with new tongues. They shall take up serpents: and if they shall drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them. They shall lay their hand upon the sick: and they shall recover."
And the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sitteth on the right hand of God. But they going forth preached every where: the Lord working withal, and confirming the word with signs that followed.

SAINT ROBERT BELLARMINE (1621 A.D.), Bishop and Doctor of the Church; Rogation Day 3; Vigil of the Ascension

SAINT ROBERT BELLARMINE
Bishop and Doctor of the Church

ROGATION DAY

VIGIL OF  THE ASCENSION

Ascension of ChristImage via Wikipedia

DOUBLE / WHITE
When the great Italian Jesuit, Robert Bellarmine (1542-1621), was made a cardinal, Pope Clement VIII said of him: "We elect this man because he has not his equal for learning in the Church of God." Untiring in his powerful opposition to the Protestant enemies of the Church, St. Robert wrote masterpieces of apologetic literature, as well as two famous catechisms. He also won souls through his sermons and lectures, but above all through his ardent prayer and the example of his holy life.

INTROIT Eccli. 15:5
In the gathering of the Church the Lord opened his mouth and filled him with the spirit of wisdom and understanding, and clothed him with a robe of glory, alleluia, alleluia!
Ps. 91:2. It is good to praise the Lord, and to sing to Your name, O Most High.
V. Glory be . . .

COLLECT
O God, You fortified Your blessed bishop and doctor Robert with remarkable learning and courage to expose the dangers of error and defend the rights of the Holy See. May we grow in love of truth, and may they who have been led astray by falsehood come back to the unity of Your Church through the intercession of Your saint. Through Our Lord . . .

Commemoration of the MASS OF ROGATION

In our difficulties, O almighty God, we rely upon Your loving mercy. Let Your protection shield us from all harm.

Commemoration of the VIGIL OF THE ASCENSION
O God, the source of all good, grant us Your inspiration that we may have proper thoughts, and Your guidance that we may carry them into practice. Through our Lord . . .

LESSON Wisdom 7:7-14
Wherefore I wished, and understanding was given me: and I called upon God, and the spirit of wisdom came upon me: And I preferred her before kingdoms and thrones, and esteemed riches nothing in comparison of her. Neither did I compare unto her any precious stone: for all gold, in comparison of her, is as a little sand; and silver, in respect to her, shall be counted as clay. I loved her above health and beauty, and chose to have her instead of light: for her light cannot be put out.
Now all good things came to me together with her, and innumerable riches through her hands, And I rejoiced in all these: for this wisdom went before me, and I knew not that she was the mother of them all. Which I have learned without guile, and communicate without envy, and her riches I hide not. For she is an infinite treasure to men: which they that use, become the friends of God, being commended for the gifts of discipline.

Alleluia, alleluia! Dan. 12:3
V. They who are learned shall shine as the brightness of the heavens. Alleluia!
V. They who instruct many peoples in justice, shall be as stars for all eternity. Alleluia!

GOSPEL Matt. 5:13-19
At that time, Jesus said to His disciples,  "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt lose its savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is good for nothing anymore but to be cast out, and to be trodden on by men. You are the light of the world. A city seated on a mountain cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but upon a candlestick, that it may shine to all that are in the house. So let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
"Do not think that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets. I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For amen I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot, or one tittle shall not pass of the law, till all be fulfilled. He therefore that shall break one of these least commandments, and shall so teach men shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven. But he that shall do and teach, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven."

OFFERTORY ANTIPHON Ps.72:28
It is good for me to hold fast to God, to put my hope in the Lord, that I may proclaim all Your praises at the gates of the daughter of Sion. Alleluia!

SECRET
We offer these gifts, O Lord, as a sweet fragrance before You. May the teaching and example of blessed Robert lead us to obey Your commandments with joyous hearts. Through Our Lord . . .

Commemoration of the MASS OF ROGATION
May these gifts free us from the ties of sinfulness, O Lord, and win us  the gift of Your mercy.

Commemoration of the VIGIL OF THE ASCENSION
Accept the prayers and offerings of the faithful, O Lord, and let our love and devotion lead us to the glory of heaven. Through our Lord . . .
COMMUNION ANTIPHON Matt. 5:14, 16
You are the light of the world. So let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. Alleluia!

SAINTS NEREUS, ACHILLEUS,
DOMITILLA, AND PANCRAS
Martyrs

ROGATION DAY

SIMPLE/RED

Nereus, Achilleus, and Domitilla were Romans who died for Christ in the first century. Nereus and Achilleus were pretorian soldiers and probably executioners of Christians before their conversion. Domitilla was a great lady, the niece of one of the consuls of Rome at that time. Pancras is believed to have been martyred in about A.D. 304, when he was only 14 years old. Pope Gregory the Great dedicated a monastery in Rome to him, and Augustine of Canterbury, Gregory's missionary, named the first church in Canterbury in his honor, thus beginning a widespread cult of the boy-martyr in England.

INTROIT Ps. 32:18, 19, 20

Behold, the eyes of the Lord are upon those who fear Him, on those who trust in His mercy, alleluia, alleluia, to rescue them from death; for the Lord is our helper and protector, alleluia, alleluia!
Ps. 32:1. Rejoice in the Lord, you just; praise befits the upright.
V. Glory be . . .

COLLECT
O Lord, may the blessed feast of Your Martyrs Nereus, Achilleus, Domitilla, and Pancras fire us with zeal to serve You more worthily. Through Our Lord . . .

Commemoration of the MASS OF ROGATION
May these oblations, O Lord, we beseech Thee, loosen the bonds of our wickedness, and obtain for us the gifts of Thy mercy. Through our Lord . . .

LESSON Wisdom 5:1-5
Then shall the just stand with great constancy against those that have afflicted them, and taken away their labours. These seeing it, shall be troubled with terrible fear, and shall be amazed at the suddenness of their unexpected salvation, Saying within themselves, repenting, and groaning for anguish of spirit: "These are they, whom we had sometime in derision, and for a parable of reproach. We fools esteemed their life madness, and their end without honour. Behold, how they are numbered among the children of God, and their lot is among the saints."

Alleluia, alleluia
V. Here was true brotherliness which overcame the sinfulness of the world and followed Christ to attain the glorious kingdom of heaven. Alleluia!
V. The white-robed army of martyrs tenders You praise, O Lord. Alleluia!

GOSPEL John 4:46-53
At that time, there was a certain ruler, whose son was sick at Capharnaum. He having heard that Jesus was come from Judea into Galilee, sent to him and prayed him to come down and heal his son: for he was at the point of death. Jesus therefore said to him: "Unless you see signs and wonders, you believe not." The ruler saith to him: "Lord, come down before that my son die." Jesus saith to him: "Go thy way. Thy son liveth." The man believed the word which Jesus said to him and went his way. And as he was going down, his servants met him: and they brought word, saying, that his son lived. He asked therefore of them the hour wherein he grew better. And they said to him: "Yesterday at the seventh hour, the fever left him." The father therefore knew that it was at the same hour that Jesus said to him:"Thy son liveth." And himself believed, and his whole house.

OFFERTORY ANTIPHON Ps. 88:6
The heavens proclaim Your wonders, O Lord, and Your truth in the assembly of saints, alleluia, alleluia!

Saints Philip and James, Apostles; Rogation Day

SAINTS PHILIP AND JAMES
Apostles and Martyrs

ROGATION DAY
LESSER LITANIES

DOUBLE, SECOND CLASS / RED
The Apostle Philip came from Bethsaida in Galilee and was one of the very first disciples called by Christ. Early Christian writers state that St. Philip evangelized Phrygia in Asia Minor, until he was stoned and crucified by hostile pagans.
St. James, called the Minor to distinguish him from St. John's brother, came from Cana and was a cousin of the Saviour. He became the first bishop of Jerusalem, and even the Jews gave him the title of "The Just." Finally, because he was converting so many of their community, the Jews tried to force him to make a public renunciation of Christ. When he replied by joyfully proclaiming the glory of his Lord, he was slain.

INTROIT II Esd. 9:27At the time of their tribulation they cried to You, O Lord, and You heard them from heaven, alleluia, alleluia!
Ps. 32:1. Rejoice in the Lord, you just; praise befits the upright.
V. Glory be . . .

COLLECT
We are made happy, O God, by the annual feast of Your holy apostles Philip and James. As we joyously remember the merits of these saints, may we also be inspired by their example. Through Our Lord . . .

Commemoration of the MASS OF ROGATION
The death and resurrection of Jesus have opened heaven and won the grace to avoid sin and to gain eternal happiness. But many of the consequences of sin still remain; and every person has his guilt to confess and atone for. Besides, there are the countless needs of soul and body that put all men on their knees before God. Earthquakes and other calamities afflicted Europe in the fifth century and St. Mamertus, instituted a penitential procession with public supplications in his Diocese. Hence, the special days of petition, called Rogation Days, marked by a special Mass, the Litany of the Saints, and, where possible, a procession during which the Litany is sung. It is well to join penance and fasting to all prayer. In 816 A.D., Pope Leo III introduced this Mass in Rome, and soon after it became a general observance throughout the Church.

Grant, we beseech Thee, O almighty God, that we, who in our affliction put our trust in Thy mercy, may ever be defended by the protection against all adversity.

Alleluia, alleluia!
V. Ps. 88:6. The heavens proclaim Your wonders, O Lord, and Your truth in the assembly of the saints. Alleluia!
V. John 14:9. Have I been so long a time with you, and you have not known Me? Philip, he who sees Me sees also My Father. Alleluia!

GOSPEL John 14:1-13
At that time, Jesus said to His disciples, "Let not your heart be troubled. You believe in God: believe also in me. In my Father's house there are many mansions. If not, I would have told you: because I go to prepare a place for you. And if I shall go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself: that where I am, you also may be. And whither I go you know: and the way you know." Thomas saith to him: "Lord, we know not whither thou goest. And how can we know the way?" Jesus saith to him: "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No man cometh to the Father, but by me. If you had known me, you would without doubt have known my Father also: and from henceforth you shall know him. And you have seen him." Philip saith to him: "Lord, shew us the Father; and it is enough for us." Jesus saith to him: "Have I been so long a time with you and have you not known me? Philip, he that seeth me seeth the Father also. How sayest thou: Shew us the Father? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father in me? The words that I speak to you, I speak not of myself. But the Father who abideth in me, he doth the works. Believe you not that I am in the Father and the Father in me? Otherwise believe for the very works' sake. Amen, amen, I say to you, he that believeth in me, the works that I do, he also shall do: and greater than these shall he do. Because I go to the Father: and whatsoever you shall ask the Father in my name, that will I do: that the Father may be glorified in the Son."

OFFERTORY ANTIPHON Ps. 88:6
The heavens proclaim Your wonders, O Lord, and Your truth in the assembly of the saints, alleluia, alleluia!

Commemoration of SAINT ANTONINUS

The Catholics of Florence have never forgotten their Archbishop Antoninus (1389-1459). Although christened "Anthony," the diminutive "Antoninus" clung to him all his life, partly because of his small stature, chiefly because of his lovable nature. as a youth he entered the Dominican Order, in which he soon gave evidence of exceptional gifts of mind and personality. Finally, in 1446, he was compelled to accept the archbishopric of Florence. Before long the Florentines were calling him "the father of the poor." During chronic earthquakes, epidemics, natural and political storms, and famine, he gave away everything he had, even his clothes, and anonymously supported thousands of "proud poor."
An illustrious canonist, he was consulted on all questions of Church and State, well deserving his title "the Counsellor." Pope Eugenius IV insisted upon receiving the Last Sacraments from him, dying in his arms. He was fellow novice and dear friend of the beatified artist Fra Angelico; and when he founded the Dominican convent of San Marco, he chose Fra Angelico to create the famous frescoes which are among the choicest treasures of Christian art.

O Lord, may the merits of Your holy confessor bishop Antoninus help us, so that while we sing Your praise for having manifested Your power through him we may also rejoice in the mercy You show to us.

Commemoration of SAINTS GORDIAN AND EPIMACHUS
Gordian, a Roman judge, was converted by a Christian whom he had been ordered to condemn. Gordian was martyred about the year 360, and he was buried in the tomb where already lay the relics of the martyr St. Epimachus.

O Almighty God, may the intercessory power of Your blessed Martyrs Gordian and Epimachus aid us who celebrate their feast today. Through Our Lord . . .

LESSON James 1:22-27
Beloved: But be ye doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if a man be a hearer of the word and not a doer, he shall be compared to a man beholding his own countenance in a glass. For he beheld himself and went his way and presently forgot what manner of man he was. But he that hath looked into the perfect law of liberty and hath continued therein, not becoming a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work: this man shall be blessed in his deed. And if any man think himself to be religious, not bridling his tongue but deceiving his own heart, this man's religion is vain. Religion clean and undefiled before God and the Father is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their tribulation and to keep one's self unspotted from this world.

Alleluia, alleluia!
V. Christ has risen and has given light to us, whom He redeemed with His Blood. Alleluia!
V. John 16:28. I came forth from the Father and have come into the world. Again I leave the world and go to the Father. Alleluia!

GOSPEL John 16:23-30
At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: "Amen, amen, I say to you: if you ask the Father any thing in my name, he will give it you. Hitherto, you have not asked any thing in my name. Ask, and you shall receive; that your joy may be full. "These things I have spoken to you in proverbs. The hour cometh when I will no longer speak to you in proverbs, but will shew you plainly of the Father. In that day, you shall ask in my name: and I say not to you that I will ask the Father for you. For the Father himself loveth you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came out from God. I came forth from the Father and am come into the world: again I leave the world and I go to the Father."
His disciples say to him: "Behold, now thou speakest plainly and speakest no proverb. Now we know that thou knowest all things and thou needest not that any man should ask thee. By this we believe that thou camest forth from God."

OFFERTORY ANTIPHON Ps. 65:8-9, 20
Bless the Lord our God, you nations; loudly sound His praise. he has given life to my soul, and has not let my feet falter. Blessed be the Lord who has not refused my prayer nor His mercy to me, alleluia!

SOLEMN MASS AND LECTURE: HOLY INNOCENTS CHURCH NEW YORK CITY MAY 12TH

From http://traditionalcatholicism83.blogspot.com/

Martin Mosebach & Luc Perrin at Holy Innocents (NYC) on Tuesday, May 12, 2015

CHURCH OF THE HOLY INNOCENTS

We gladly announce that on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 the Society of Hugh of Cluny will sponsor a Solemn High Mass at 6:00 PM at the Church of the Holy Innocents.

Following the Mass, at 7:30 PM, Professor Luc Perrin and Martin Mosebach will speak in Holy Innocents Hall in the lower level of the church.

Luc Perrin, of the University of Strasbourg, France, is perhaps the foremost historian of the Catholic Traditionalist movement in France and in the world. He has publicly defended and proven that “Traditionalism” is not simply a “20th century French political and national movement,” but a more universal phenomenon that has found a much increased popularity, interest, and support in the United States, which Dr. Perrin designates “the promised land for traditional Catholicism.”

Martin Mosebach is one of the foremost authors of Germany. In his own country, he is best known as a novelist and essayist. However, in the English-speaking Catholic world, he is most known and remembered as the author of The Heresy of Formlessness, the seminal work on the traditional Liturgy, which discusses the negative consequences the liturgical rupture has caused in the Catholic Church in the last 5 decades.

Luc Perrin will speak on: “From Benedict to Francis, the Church in Europe at a New Crossroads.”

Martin Mosebach will then speak on: “Paradise on Earth: the Liturgy as a Window on the Hereafter.”

Please join us for this rare opportunity to hear two leading European Catholic thinkers!

Admission is free and open to the public.

Mass to Hudson County, New Jersey, a Solemn Mass will be sung on
Saturday, May 23rd at 7:00 p.m. for the Vigil of Pentecost, at downtown
Jersey City’s historic St. Anthony’s Church. (Located on Monmouth Street
between 6th and 7th Streets). Diocesan clergy from throughout New
Jersey, as well as priests of both the Institute of Christ the King and
the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter will participate as ministers at
the altar. The renowned Cantantes in Cordibus choir, under the direction of Maestro Simone Ferraresi, will perform Haydn’s acclaimed Missa Brevis Sancti Joannis de Deo.
The organizers of this truly special event are the many young
parishioners who have recently joined the growing parish in a quickly
gentrifyng city. They hope that this will be an opportunity for young
faithful Catholics to worship, meet and network.

St.
Anthony’s Church is listed on the State and National Registers of
Historic Sites. The church, built in the Victorian Gothic Style, is a
pristine example of a church untouched by modern elements and remains a
true example of Roman Catholic aesthetic rarely seen today. (See http://stanthonyjc.com/#/photo-gallery/4537929714.)
The church parking lot is located on 6th Street between Coles and
Monmouth Street and is easily accessible from the Grove Street PATH, the
Newport PATH and Light Rail stop. There will be a celebratory coffee
served after Mass as well as a visit to a local establishment for the
young people in attendance.
