April 29, 2016, Friday — Rumblings in the Underbrush: An Announcement Soon on the Society of St. Pius X?
“The Society of St. Pius X was founded by Archbishop Lefebvre in the midst of these confusing times for the Church. It is called to provide a new generation of priests for the Church, to safeguard the true Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and to proclaim the Kingship of Jesus Christ over all of society, even in the presence of liberal Popes and princes of the Church who betray the faith. This necessarily led to a conflict…” —Fr. Franz Schmidberger, in a February 19 internal letter to fellow leaders of the traditionalist Society of St. Pius X which was leaked recently in its French original and has just been published on the internet today in English

The society's founder celebratingTridentine Mass, which the society uses exclusively, rejecting the revision made after the Second Vatican Council.
“Archbishop Lefebvre always sought a canonical solution for the Fraternity after its condemnation and did not shy away from dialogue with the Roman authorities; to this end it was important for him to move them to understanding and conversion.” —Fr. Schmidberger, in the same letter
“We very likely have sympathizers and friends also among the bishops and cardinals. One or another of them would gladly call on us for help and give us a parish church or even entrust a seminary to us, but in the present situation this is impossible for them. These Nicodemuses are waiting impatiently for a solution that would also strengthen their backbone personally.” —Fr. Schmidberger, in the same letter
“Modernists, liberals, and other enemies of the Church are very upset about steps toward a canonical solution for the Society. Doesn’t the discernment of spirits make it clear that this is the right way and good?” —Fr. Schmidberger, in the same letter
“If God wants to come to the aid of His Church, which is bleeding from a thousand wounds, He has a thousand opportunities to do so. Among them is the official recognition of the Society by the Roman authorities.” —Fr. Schmidberger, in the same letter
“Pope Francis may soon offer the Society of Saint Pius X regular canonical status within the Catholic Church without requiring acceptance of certain texts of the Second Vatican Council with which they disagree, a prerequisite that heretofore had been seen as a deal-breaker for the traditionalists. It also appears the society may itself be poised to take such a historic step…” —Anian Christoph Wimmer of Catholic News Agency, in an April 26 article, three days ago (link)
=====================
Reunion soon?
There are rumblings of movement regarding the relationship between the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) and Rome.
Some are suggesting that the announcement of a reconciliation may be imminent.

RORATE CAELI: No reservations about supporting this effort

From http://rorate-caeli.blogspot.com/

Please see below and consider helping the Traditional Latin Mass flourish on this Indian reservation:

When the Church came to our reservation back in 1884, it has been said by one spiritual elder in our community, "It was really easy for Indians to be Catholic. There was so much that came natural to us. Like a priest praying to the East, we've been praying to east long before the Black Robes came to us." He also went on to say, "Then in the 60's the Church changed, and a lot of people left the church because they felt that the Church had lied to them. They said this was important and a part of God, then all of sudden it didn't matter anymore. Our people felt lied to, like the the white man has done so many times before."

From that point on, church attendance and participation started to decline. What the priests of the last 40 years didn't understand was that the ritual, wonder, mystery and awe that the TLM conveyed was important to the Native Americans, it was a sign that God was with them. When all that symbolism was taken away, the interest in the Catholic Church waned.
In 2015 my wife and I came to the reservation as Parish Life Coordinators because neither the diocese or former religious orders had enough priests to have a full time pastor on the reservation. The Sacramental Minister who we work with, Fr. Garrett Nelson, is a recently ordained priest (1 1/2 years). He and the four other young priests in our diocese have a great love for the TLM.
They started an informal priestly fraternity in which they get together once a month (no easy feat in the second largest diocese, land wise, in the United States) and pray the TLM. Fr. Nelson has asked me if one month they could celebrate the TLM at St. Paul Mission. I said of course. After that single Latin Mass, people in the community came up to me and Fr. Nelson and said how wonderful it was to have the "old way" on the reservation again. One man, after watching Father and I celebrating a funeral Mass, said "We've noticed that you and Father are so prayerful and intentional during Mass, this is something we haven't seen in a long time, thank you."
We are now in the transition of slowly making the TLM a more common reality on the reservation, with the hopes of having the TLM offered every Sunday. Because of the neglect the last couple of decades to the visual beauty of the church, we need money in order to help bring back that sense of mystery wonder and awe and that church should have.
We believe that all of this will naturally lead to a deeper understanding of the Faith and devotion for this community. Being able to offer the TLM is a part of that vision.

Commemoration of SAINT GEORGE
George from an illustrious family, was a Cappadocian who who fought in the Roman army during the third century. He rebuked Diocletian when that ruler began to persecute the Christians, and was in consequence tortured and beheaded. The brave and defiant cheerfulness of the young officer during his torture was so great an inspiration to Christians of succeeding centuries that both the East and the West surrounded his bright figure with clusters of beautiful legends. St. George is the patron of England, and Christian soldiers. He was especially venerated in Christian Russia.

RORATE CÆLI: Sancta Missa Latin Mass Workshop for the Laity April 30

RORATE CÆLI: You Suggest: Sancta Missa Latin Mass Workshop for the Laity April 30

On Saturday, April 30th, the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse will be hosting a Sancta Missa Latin Mass Workshop for anyone who would like to learn about the basics and theology of the Extraordinary Form of the Mass (also known as the Traditional Latin Mass or the Classical Roman Rite).

This workshop is presented by the Canons Regular of Saint John Cantius from Chicago, whose charism is the "Restoration of the Sacred."  Ever since Pope Benedict XVI issued Summorum Pontificum in 2007, the Canons have been hard at work educating priests on how to offer the Extraordinary Form of the Mass and the lay faithful on how they can better appreciate the celebration of the Latin Mass and pray the Mass with greater fervor and devotion.

The workshop will begin at 9:15 am in the Shrine Church Crypt followed by an 10:30 am sung Latin Mass with incense in the Shrine Church celebrated by the Canons Regular of St. John Cantius.

There is no cost for attending the workshop but a free-will offering would be greatly appreciated.

For more information, please see the attached flyer or contact the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, 5250 Justin Road, La Crosse, Wisconsin, (877) 799-4059.

Please join us for this "extraordinary" workshop at the beautiful Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe!  And invite your friends and family!

FERIAL DAY
TUESDAY OF THE THIRD WEEK OF EASTER

INTROIT Ps. 65:1-2
Shout joyfully to God, all the earth, alleluia, alleluia! Sing a psalm to the glory of His name, Alleluia, Proclaim His glorious praise, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
Ps. 65:3. Say to God, "How tremendous are your deeds, O Lord! because of Your great strength Your enemies cringe before You."
V. Glory be . . .

COLLECT
Show us the light of Your truth, O God, which guides the sinner back to th epath of justice. Let those who profess to be Christians avoid whatever will endanger their faith, and follow those things which will help it. Through Our Lord . . .

EPISTLE I Peter 2:11-19.
Dearly beloved, I beseech you, as strangers and pilgrims, to refrain yourselves from carnal desires which war against the soul, Having your conversation good among the Gentiles: that whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by the good works which they shall behold in you, glorify God in the day of visitation.
Be ye subject therefore to every human creature for God's sake: whether it be to the king as excelling, Or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and for the praise of the good. For so is the will of God, that by doing well you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: As free and not as making liberty a cloak for malice, but as the servants of God. Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king. Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and gentle but also to the forward. For this is thankworthy: if, for conscience towards God, a man endure sorrows, suffering wrongfully.

Alleluia, alleluia! V. Ps. 110:9
The Lord has sent deliverance to His people. Alleluia!
V. Luke 24:26. Thus Christ should suffer and should rise again from the dead and should enter into His glory. Alleluia!

GOSPEL John 16:16-22.
At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: "A little while, and now you shall not see Me: and again a little while, and you shall see Me: because I go to the Father." Then some of his disciples said one to another: "What is this that he saith to us: A little while, and you shall not see me: and again a little while, and you shall see me, and, Because I go to the Father?" They said therefore: "What is this that he saith, A little while? We know not what he speaketh."
And Jesus knew that they had a mind to ask him. And he said to them: "Of this do you inquire among yourselves, because I said: A little while, and you shall not see Me; and again a little while, and you shall see Me? Amen, amen, I say to you, that you shall lament and weep, but the world shall rejoice: and you shall be made sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy. A woman, when she is in labour, hath sorrow, because her hour is come; but when she hath brought forth the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. So also you now indeed have sorrow: but I will see you again and your heart shall rejoice. And your joy no man shall take from you."

OFFERTORY ANTIPHON Ps. 145:2
Praise the Lord, O my soul; I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God while I live, alleluia!

SECRET
May this sacred rite help us to overcome our earthly desires, O Lord, and teach us to love the things of heaven. Through Our Lord . . .

COMMUNION ANTIPHON John 16:16
A little while and you shall see Me no longer, alleluia! and again a little while and you shall see Me, because I go to the Father, alleluia, alleluia!

POSTCOMMUNION
O Lord, may the Sacrament which we have received strengthen us in spirit and comfort us in body. Through Our Lord . . .

Dearly beloved, Whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory, which overcometh the world, our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? This is He that came by water and blood, Jesus Christ: not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit which testifieth that Christ is the truth. And there are three who give testimony in heaven: the Father, the Word and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that give testimony on eath: the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three are one. Lesson
Lesson from the first letter of St John the Apostle
1 John 5:4-10
Dearly beloved, Whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory, which overcometh the world, our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? This is He that came by water and blood, Jesus Christ: not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit which testifieth that Christ is the truth. And there are three who give testimony in heaven: the Father, the Word and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that give testimony on eath: the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three are one. If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater: for this is the testimony of God, which is greater, because He hath testified of His Son. He that believeth in the Son of God hath the testimony of God in himself.

Alleluia
Alleluia, alleluia.
Matt 28:7
V.: On the day of My Resurrection, saith the Lord, I will go before you into Galilee. Alleluia.
John 20:26
After eight days, the doors being shut, Jesus stood in the midst of His disciples and said: Peace be to you. Alleluia.

GOSPEL
Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to John
R. Glory be to Thee, O Lord.
John 20. 19-31
At that time, when it was late that same day, the first of the week, and the doors were shut, where the disciples were gathered together for fear of the Jews, Jesus came, and stood in the midst and said to them: Peace be to you. And when He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. The disciples therefore were glad, when they saw the Lord. He said therefore to them again: Peace be to you. As the Father hath sent Me, I also send you. When He had said this, He breathed on them, and He said to them: Receive ye the Holy Ghost: whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them; and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained. Now Thomas, one of the Twelve, who is called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said to him: We have seen the Lord. But he said to them: Except I shall see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe. And after eight days, again His disciples were within, and Thomas with them. Jesus cometh, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said: Peace be to you. The He saith to Thomas: Put in thy finger hither, and see My hands, and bring hither thy hand, and put into My side; and be not faithless, but believing. Thomas answered and said to Him: my Lord and my God. Jesus saith to him: Because thou hast seen Me, Thomas, thou hast believed; blessed are they that have not seen, and have believed. Many other signs also did Jesus in the sight of His disciples, which are not written in this book. But these are written, that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that, believing, you may have life in His Name.

In addition to carrying on an inspired apostolate in Spain, he preached to thousands of persons in France, Switzerland, and Italy [By his preaching and miracles, he converted thousands of sinners and heretics.]. He pleaded so eloquently for penance that he was known as the "Angel of the Judgment."

COLLECT
O God, who didst vouchsafe to glorify Thy Church by the merits and preaching of blessed Vincent, Thy Confessor: grant to us Thy servants that we may be taught by his example, and delivered by his patronage from all adversities. Through our Lord . . .

For the Pope
O God, shepherd and ruler of all the faithful, look with favor upon Your servant Francis, whom You willed to designate shepherd of Your Church; grant him, we beseech You, that by word and example he may so benefit those in his charge, that together with the flock committed to his care, he may attain life everlasting.
Through Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end.
R. Amen.

Lesson
Lesson from the book of Ecclesiasticus
Sir 31:8-11
Happy the man found without fault, who turns not aside after gain, nor puts his trust in money nor in treasures! Who is he, that we may praise him? For he has done wonders in his life. He has been tested by gold and come off safe, and this remains his glory forever; he could have sinned but did not, could have done evil but would not, so that his possessions are secure in the Lord, and the assembly of the Saints shall recount his alms.

Alleluia
Alleluia, alleluia.
Jas 1:12
Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been tried, he shall receive the crown of life. Alleluia.
Ecclus 45:9
V. The Lord loved him and adorned him; He clothed him with a robe of glory. Alleluia.

Gospel
Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Luke
R. Glory be to Thee, O Lord.
Luke 12:35-40
At that time, Jesus said to His disciples, Let your loins be girt about and your lamps burning, and you yourselves like men waiting for their master’s return from the wedding; so that when he comes and knocks, they may straight-way open to him. Blessed are those servants whom the master, on his return, shall find watching. Amen I say to you, he will gird himself, and will make them recline at table, and will come and serve them. And if he comes in the second watch, and if in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those servants! But of this be assured, that if the householder had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would certainly have watched, and not have let his house be broken into. You also must be ready, because at an hour that you do not expect, the Son of Man is coming.
R. Praise be to Thee, O Christ.
S. By the words of the Gospel may our sins be blotted out.

Secret
We offer You sacrifices of praise, O Lord, in memory of Your Saints; trusting that by them we may be delivered from both present and future evils.

For the Pope
Be appeased, O Lord, we beseech You, by the gifts we offer, and by Your continual protection direct Your servant Francis, whom You willed to be shepherd of Your Church.
Through Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end.
R. Amen.

Post Communion
Refreshed with heavenly food and drink, we humbly pray You, our God, that we also may be helped by his prayers in memory of whom we have partaken.

For the Pope
May this reception of the divine sacrament, we beseech You, O Lord, be our protection, and may it safeguard and shield at all times Your servant Francis, whom You willed to rule over Your Church as shepherd, and with him, the flock entrusted to his care.
Through Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end.
R. Amen.
