SAINT APOLLONIA
Virgin and Martyr

SAINT CYRIL OF ALEXANDRIA
Bishop and Doctor of the Church

SAINT APOLLONIA
Virgin and Martyr
DOUBLE/GREEN
Our Lord lived in a world of human
beings--a world in which there were scoundrels and saints, hardships
and joys, mysteries and matters clear as day. His example makes it
possible for men to face all things evil with a new mind of Christ.
Because of the redeeming death of
the God-man, evil is no longer the unconquerable monster. No scandal,
no catastrophe, can rob men of their indwelling God or their chance to
gain heaven. When men, as the responsible agents of providence, cannot
remedy evil, they may leave it to the final accounting of God's
judgment. The burden of pain and distress becomes more bearable when the
sufferer thinks of the crucifixion that Jesus endured for the sins of
all men. All suffering, offered in union with the Redeemer's, can win
grace for souls and merit heaven.
INTROIT Psalm 96: 7, 8
ADORE GOD, all you His angels: Sion heard, and was glad; and the daughters of Juda rejoiced. Ps. 96, 1. The Lord hath reigned; let the earth rejoice: let many islands be glad. V.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it
was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.

THY family, we beseech Thee, O Lord, with Thy continual mercy that,
leaning only upon the hope of Thy heavenly grace, it may ever be
defended by Thy protection. Through
Our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee in
the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen.
Commemoration of SAINT CYRIL OF ALEXANDRIA Cyril, patriarch of Alexandria, was known as the Doctor of the Incarnation. He took a fearless stand against the Nestorian heretics who denied that the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity was made man. As the Pope's legate, Cyril presided over the third General Council, held at Ephesus in 431. The clear statements of this great council regarding the Incarnation defined that the Son of God is both God and man and that the Blessed Virgin, His Mother, is truly the Mother of God. Of St. Cyril it may be said, "Nations shall declare his wisdom, and the Church shall show forth his praise" (Eccli. 39:14).
O God, You made Cyril, Your blessed confessor bishop, the invincible
champion of the most blessed Virgin Mary's divine Motherhood. We firmly
believe that she is truly the Mother of God. May her motherly protection
save us through the prayers of St. Cyril.
Commemoration of SAINT APOLLONIA
Apollonia was a virgin and deaconess of Alexandria. She died for Christ during a bloody persecution of the faithful in A.D. 249.

WE
PRAY Thee, O almighty God, that we may receive the effect of that

O Lord, we have been nourished by Your divine Sacrament. May the
example and merits of the blessed bishop Cyril help us to serve
fittingly the most holy Mother of Your only-begotten Son; who lives and
rules with You . . .
