Anthony
Mary Zaccaria was born at Cremona, Italy. He was ordained to the
priesthood in 1528, and two years later founded the Clerks Regular of
St. Paul, commonly known as the Barnabites. Father Anthony and his
clerks preached most frequently on the Saviour's sufferings and death
for men. He also promoted the Forty Hour's Devotion, introducing the
custom of exposing the Blessed Sacrament for three continuous days.

Lord God, may the spirit of Your apostle Paul teach us the science of
Jesus Christ, a knowledge that surpasses all understanding. It was
through this learning that blessed Anthony was instructed to found new
religious families of priests and virgins for Your Church. Through our

EPISTLE I Tim. 4:8-16
Beloved:
Godliness is profitable to all things, having promise of the life that
now is and of that which is to come. A faithful saying and worthy of all
acceptation. For therefore we labour and are reviled, because we hope
in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, especially of the
faithful.
These
things command and teach: Let no man despise thy youth: but be thou an
example of the faithful, in word, in conversation, in charity, in faith,
in chastity. Till I come, attend unto reading, to exhortation and to
doctrine. Neglect not the grace that is in thee, which was given thee by
prophecy, with imposition of the hands of the priesthood. Meditate upon
these things, be wholly in these things: that thy profiting may be
manifest to all. Take heed to thyself and to doctrine: be earnest in
them. For in doing this thou shalt both save thyself and them that hear
thee.

For
God is my witness how I long for you all in the heart of Christ Jesus.

knowledge and all discernment.

kneeling before him, asked him: "Good Master, what shall I do that I may
receive life everlasting?" And Jesus said to him: "Why
callest thou me good? None is good but one, that is God. Thou knowest
the commandments: Do not commit adultery, do not kill, do not steal,
bear not false witness, do no fraud, honour thy father and mother." But
he answering, said to him: "Master, all these things I have observed
from my youth." And Jesus, looking on him, loved him and said to him: "One
thing is wanting unto thee. Go, sell whatsoever thou hast and give to

soul and body that blessed Anthony so wondrously enjoyed when he offered

Lord Jesus Christ, may our reception of Your Body at the Heavenly
Banquet inflame our hearts with the same love that filled blessed
Anthony when he bore the Blessed Sacrament in victory over the enemies
of the Church; who lives and rules with God the Father . . .
