SAINT ANTHONY MARY ZACCARIA
Confessor
Anthony Mary Zaccaria was born at Cremona, Italy. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1528, and two years later founded the Clerks Regular of St. Paul, commonly known as the Barnabites. ENTRANCE HYMN I Cor. 2:4
My speech and my preaching were not in the persuasive words of human wisdom, but in the demonstration of the Spirit and power.
Ps. 110:1. I will praise You, O God, with my whole heart in the company and in the assembly of the just.
V. Glory be . . .
PRAYER
O Lord God,may the spirit of Your apostle Paul teach us the science of Jesus Christ, a knowledge that surpasses all understanding. It was through this learning that blessed Anthony was instructed to found new religious families of priests and virgins for Your Church. Through our Lord . . .
READING I Tim. 4:8-16
Beloved: Godliness is profitable to all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come. A faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation. For therefore we labour and are reviled, because we hope in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, especially of the faithful.
These things command and teach: Let no man despise thy youth: but be thou an example of the faithful, in word, in conversation, in charity, in faith, in chastity. Till I come, attend unto reading, to exhortation and to doctrine. Neglect not the grace that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with imposition of the hands of the priesthood. Meditate upon these things, be wholly in these things: that thy profiting may be manifest to all. Take heed to thyself and to doctrine: be earnest in them. For in doing this thou shalt both save thyself and them that hear thee.
GRADUAL Philipp. 1:8-9, 10
For God is my witness how I long for you all in the heart of Christ Jesus. And this I pray, that your charity may more, and more abound in knowledge and all discernment.
V. So that you may approve the better things, that you may be upright and without offense unto the day of Christ.
Alleluia, alleluia! V. Philipp. 1:11
May you be filled with the fruit of justice, through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. Alleluia!
GOSPEL Mark 10:15-21
At that time, Jesus said to His disciples, "Amen I say to you, whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall not enter into it." And embracing them and laying his hands upon them, he blessed them. And when he was gone forth into the way, a certain man, running up and kneeling before him, asked him: "Good Master, what shall I do that I may receive life everlasting?" And Jesus said to him: "Why callest thou me good? None is good but one, that is God. Thou knowest the commandments: Do not commit adultery, do not kill, do not steal, bear not false witness, do no fraud, honour thy father and mother." But he answering, said to him: "Master, all these things I have observed from my youth." And Jesus, looking on him, loved him and said to him: "One thing is wanting unto thee. Go, sell whatsoever thou hast and give to the poor: and thou shalt have treasure in heaven. And come, follow me."
OFFERTORY HYMN Ps. 137:1-2
I will sing Your praise in the sight of the angels; I will worship in Your holy temple and give glory to Your name.
SECRET PRAYER
O Lord, let us approach Your heavenly banquet with the same purity of soul and body that blessed Anthony so wondrously enjoyed when he offered the most Holy Sacrifice. Through our Lord . . .
COMMUNION HYMN Philipp. 3:17
Brethren, be imitators of me, and mark those who walk after the pattern you have in us.
POSTCOMMUNION PRAYER
O Lord Jesus Christ, may our reception of Your Body at the Heavenly Banquet inflame our hearts with the same love that filled blessed Anthony when he bore the Blessed Sacrament in victory over the enemies of the Church; who lives and rules with God the Father . . .
